Forge Cottage
Mabel hadn't missed a single day since she started laying - until one day last week. No egg, then she acted very strange all day, hunched and withdrawn at times. I was worried and thought maybe she was egg-bound. I went ready to check her out later - when I found she had just 'laid' a surgical Rubber Glove in a load of goo!! She was looking at it, as if to say 'I don't remember eating that...' and I just managed to persuade her not to eat it again! She must have dug it up from somewhere in the garden... I suppose I shouldn't be surprised after Gerty ate a whole Frog in one (how do they do that??). Well the good news is Mabel was then fine - and laid a softee next day, then a fine egg the day after. Lesley-Jean
As she has laid such a lot of eggs she could be getting a bit low on calcium. Make sure she has access to oyster shell and I would consider putting a little extra limestone flour in with her pellets for a little while. Forge Cottage
No lash, it really was a glove... fingers and all! Thanks for all your comments and advice. Yes, she has access to oyster shell and grit (and rubber gloves). Anyway, Mabel is still fine. So here's to the next adventure!!
