mrsallen08
Hiya We are adopting a few more hens this weekend with Hen Rehomers (formerly North London Hen Rescue) I know they are hoping to release around 2000 hens this weekend from 2 different 'farms'. Just wondered if any omleteers are adopting again!
Janty
No, we have enough. Are these people the same group who were on the tv last night?
mrsallen08
Erm... not sure as i missed it. The release is nationwide though I think as they travel with them all over and then there are pick up points.

fowlbird
we'll be contacting them when we get our walk-in run and 3rd eglu... perhaps someone would like to prod OH?
Gallina
Yes, I am getting two. Hen Rehomers kindly organized it that someone else from Oxford who is getting hens will bring mine to me from Shipton-under-Wychwood, as I haven't got a car. They will go in the Eglu, which has been sad and empty recently. I think that this is the first time that there has been a rescue in Oxfordshire, and it has received a lot of publicity here. Yesterday on Radio Oxford the organizer was strongly recommending the Eglu to keep rescue hens in. Omlet should make the most of this local connection. I have asked for the two barest ugliest hens possible, as I want to make a web page showing their recovery. Also I like gentle hens, and I fancy that the ones which survive battery life with a good covering of feathers must have done their share of pecking. http://www.henrehomers.net/
Pikey
I got two from the rescue yesterday. Gallina....not sure your theory works as the one with the least amount of feathers has been attacking the other one all day as well as pecking my other two through the wire as they were free ranging today. Gallina
I think I may be wrong too, as the two I got both had a lot of feathers and seem very gentle. One is extremely sensible: she took herself to bed last night, and laid an egg in the proper place today. The other went around in circles in the dark last night, and had her egg in the run today. They are in much better condition than I imagined, and seem to walk quite well. They do not, however, recognize any food except for pellets. They must find things very cold and quiet. I am not sure that they are enjoying themselves yet. It must be awfully bewildering for them, and they creep around very tentatively. I am glad I have a separate eglu for them. Pikey
Solitary confinement seems to be working for Cookie.....she is so noisy and agressive....even started on me!!!!! Season has laid 4 eggs so far and seems to be getting on ok with the other two. Their chicken instincts are now coming out and they are being to scratch around for food. They also do an interesting march rather than walk.
ems
My two jailbirds have been circling all day, not sure if they are used to beddding under their feet either, they just flick it, and constantly seem to check their feet!
