peterhas5chucks
one of my chickens was pulling feathers off another one so i thoiught that that was causing the feather loss but she looks a bit ratty and has other feathers missing though mostly from her legs and bottom. wev put anti peck spray on her but they are still coming out, and neither chickens are laying eggs, is this moult? Egluntyne
It sounds like it. Have you checked them for lice and mites ? Are Layers Pellets forming the main part of their diet?
Janepie33
My bluebelle decided to moult right in the middle of the coldest part of the year. She didn't lay for over a month, but yesterday and today she laid smaller than usual eggs. She looks lovely with her new shiny feathers. chrisnrob
Greta is mid-way through her moult at the moment and we haven't had any eggs for a couple of weeks now. Quite why she decided to moult when the temperature hit -8 I don't know! Rob
chickencam
My Light Sussex has lost a lot of feathers in the last week or so. She lost quite a few before Christmas then no more until now. She has not layed since mid November, but she is a pure breed so I expected her to have the winter off. My White Star has not got many feathers but has been laying more or less constantly since September 2007. She has lost feathers through bullying in the early days and she pulls them out herself despite being mite and lice free. I am hoping that she will stop laying soon to have a rest and regrow her plumage.
peterhas5chucks
now she seems to be losing feathers from random places all over her (back, legs, knickers, stomach) ad weve put the anti peck spray on and i havent seen my other chicken eating the feathers. i dont think she has lice as we just deloused them and im worming them this week, and yes, layers pellets are in their diet. the 2 chickens are around the same age but ones moulting and one doesnt seem to be, though shes stopped laying eggs. just thought it was a random time of year to moult...and they both stopped laying one week after the other which was convienient timing
chickencam
It can depend on what time of year they were born and started to lay, so if they are late season birds then that may be the answer.
