They're here !!!

Recommended Posts

The chucks and the (cube purple) have arrived a week early :D

I've still soooo excited. The girls make the most wonderful noises and the kids (aged 2 and 4) in all their excitement seem to have forgotten that they're frightened of chickens!

Our delivery man told us that our chickens where a little younger than they normally send out so they are not POL chickens. I'm hoping that that was the only reason that they seemed more hesitant than I expected. We waited 20 minutes for the first to jump down the ladder. She scratched around found some food, didn't find the water and went back in. Think she told the others not to bother because no one else came out. Poor things must have been starving and thirsty. The delivery driver said that they hadn't been fed. Eventually we took the other three birds out ourselves. But they all went back in and had an afternoon siesta! Three of the four did eventually perk up and start eating and found the water, though very little was drunk. Is this normal behaviour? I'm putting some of it down to their age and the disorientation.

For the first time ever, I don't think I'll mind if the kids wake me a little early in the morning. Really looking forward to breakfast with the chickens!

Hello Prudance.

It will take a couple of days for them to settle in. Once they find the food, they will start eating, but they don't eat very much until they start laying. You won't have to fill up the food container that often just yet.

When they start laying their appetites quadruple!

All the best and congratulation son your new arrivals.

Congratulations! Wait till the eggs start coming, then the children get REALLY excited

I have three children, 4, 2 and 7 months, but the oldest one is terrified of animals, all animals, except donkeys (go figure) but she will more than happily play in the garden even when the girls are free ranging. My two year old asks to see the Chickens from the moment he wakes. Mind you, I think I am as bad

Enjoy your chickens, have fun and post lots of photos please :D

Congratulations :)

Our girls Posh and Pecks arrived Tuesday...both were a little nervous at first, although come wednesday they were both eating the layers pellets as well their afternoon treat of meal worms from my hand

It did take them a few days to get use to the cabbage, which they assumed was for rolling around the run LOL

Enjoy....
