Potato day at Whitchurch hampshire

Recommended Posts

Just come back from the Potato day at Whitchurch. Fabulous - you can buy your potatoes singly (17p each or 10 for £1.50) if you like or in bags. Fantastic variety - over 100 varieties. With bean seeds , shallots and onions and much more - heaven!!! Heritage seeds from Garden Organic have a stall as does Henry Etty seeds . Thompson Morgan have their Sarpo Axona and Sarpo Mira seed potatoes available too. Its open until 3pm today for anyone interested. As you can tell I had a great time choosing!

Anyone else been to a similar day?

I was there on Saturday! We ended up with 5 different varieties of spuds, some Garnet artichokes and a few packets of seeds from the Beans and Herbs lady. Couldn't get my Cherie variety because it was waiting for certification, but then it isn't organic. :(

Spuds are:

Amorosa - first early

Maris Bard - first early

Orla

Valor

Remarka - early maincrop - I think.

All are organic (didn't have much choice though) and I have chosen the ones that are supposed to be resistant to diseases.

However there were loads of non-organic varieties - and most of them (including the organic ones) you can pick one tuber to try, or more - of course the more you have the better the discount.

All spuddies are now in egg boxes and they are sprouting already! Tiny little yellowy green dots!

We were going to go to Potato Day at Ryton on Saturday 24 but work got in the way - so I ordered our seed potatoes from a great company called Tuckers Seeds. I've not used them before but so far they have been very helpful.

We def. wanted Charlottes and most places have sold out of them now - their site still showed them as in stock. I was prepeared to compromise on the other choices, but not on the Charlottes. I emailed to ask and had a reply straight away. i've also spoken to them twice and am impressed so far.

We've got Charlotte, Vivaldi and Rooster on their way to us.
