Do other peoples chickens chuck their layers pellets all over the floor ? Mine stick their head in the grub and flick out piles of pellets which they then leave on the ground. I'd mind less if they ate some of them, but I'm worried that leaving pellets scattered all over the run floor (they are on grass) will encourage rats.

 

Am I filling the Grub too full, or are they just messy chooks ?

That's one of the reasons why I don't use grubs! I use glugs for feed and a gravity feeder too.

I have a hopper style feeder and they still manage to flick pellets everwhere. They do eventually hoover them up when they realise that the hooper is empty and I'm not around to refill it!

I just take away the feeder and make them finish up the ones on the ground before they get it back.

 

They seem to prefer poking around on the ground to hoovering up food from the feeder. Even my new ex-batts are doing it.

 

Food left on the ground stinks most horribly and forms an impermeable crust, so make them eat what they have spilt.

Mine like to flick the pellets out onto the floor and eat them from there. Very funny to watch them doing it I keep telling them to eat them out of the grub but they dont listen - women!
