Complaining about the rain

Recommended Posts

Our chooks will happily go out in the rain and get soaked, but spend a large portion of this time complaining about it. Karen reckons she can tell if it's raining before she's even looked out of the window because she can hear then moaning "Bok bok boooooook..." in a sad voice. Is it just ours who do this?

My three all came bombing out this morning an have been in the middle of the lawn getting soaked for most of the day. Gin was a bit vocal about it but still she stood there rather than finding shelter!

I figured that as she was wet already I would bring Stella in for a bit of an undercarriage wash and blow dry. She was SO well behaved. Just stood in the bath ( :shh: don`t tell OH) and let me give her tail feathers a good wash. And she was more than happy to have a little doze when she was being blow dried! She is now back in the run all dry and fluffy whilst the other two look like drowned rats!

We haven't had any rain since we got our chickens two weeks ago. I am guessing they wouldn't like rain though as we are in a heatwave at the moment (45.7c yesturday, only a little less today) as I have been trying to cool them down, flicking water at them, and they did not seem too impressed.

Hubbie called me out Tuesday night when he was watering the lawn as he said they were playing under the water, but all I saw was them running away from him with the hose! They do like to follow around and peck at the wet ground though.

I have been filling the holes they have dug around the garden with water for them to lay in (they don't lay until the water has soaked away) which they seem to like.

Too hot for eggs today, but they did very well yesturday and laid an egg each.
