Is it possible to have a chicken who never lays?

Recommended Posts

It can happen, but isn't common.

Has she got the red face furniture and does she crouch?

Are you certain that she isn't in the habit of laying her eggs under a shrub in the garden?

She has has a red face and comb since about 24 weeks but has never crouched at all. They are in a fenced off area in the garden where there are no bushes. Think I've just got a dud.

One of my girls has never laid an egg (well apart from one that was curled up like a dog poo - do a search on weird egg!). She is about 16 months old now and has a very small comb in comparison to the others. I've been trying to find out what the reasons could be, but she's happy and healthy enough so I've chalked it up to one of those things. Would love to know why though....

I had a leghorn that laid once in a blue moon, I mean once every three or four months, then maybe two or three in a row and then none for weeks, and we knew as she was our only white egg layer at the time. :? We used to call her the useless freeloader!

At least yours are laying, mine are STILL on strike. Tink I need some poultry spice to give them a kick up the reproductive parts. :D
