GEB
Am desperate to expand my flock. Have things sorted on how to increase their run, but would also need a bigger house. Money being as it is I don't think a cube is an option so have been thinking of alternatives without going down the wooden housing route. Has anyone converted a plastic shed? Do you think this would be do-able? What does everyone think?
BeckyBoo
It has been thought of before, trouble is cubes aren't just plastic houses nor are Eglu's, they're double lined and all sorts of fancy stuff. Plastic shed would be too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter plus the ventilation would be all wrong. I accept that hens in the wild don't get pampered like this but I don't think it would be a very good idea. You might convert a wooden shed but they're normally quite big I know some people on here have built their own wooden hen houses from Freecycled wood etc so that might be a good idea depending on how handy you are - cubes are frighteningly expensive! Good luck beckyBoo
Egluntyne
People do convert plastic sheds, but for all the reasons Beckyboo suggests, they are not ideal. The ventilation being the main issue.
