unfortunately, it's not our boiler, it's in the daughter's flat and with this weather OH can't get over there to take a look and he's not CORGI anyway. She and the cat are under the duvet with a hotbottle and the gerbils are unhappy

Phew. I bet your daughter is relieved. I spoke to my Mum earlier and she is having boiler problems to, it keeps switching itself off. She is very glad she has an open fire!

that's what daughter's boiler kept doing, Clare. We're relieved that it's fixed because otherwise we'd be getting frantic phonecalls from her...

 

I've no idea what the problem was but he fixed it and she's happy. It'll be a relief when she finally graduates, gets a job (hopefully ) and sorts out all this stuff herself

 

Normally we're the ones with boiler/shower/hot water problems - the favourite time for it all to go wrong is xmas eve

Our boiler stopped on Sunday evening as well Thankfully father-in-law used to work for british gas. It turned out that the earth strap had come loose. Its only 4 years old. Glad to hear that it was a happy ending fowlbird

it was a great relief, Paola! You haven't heard our youngest when she starts....

 

I didn't realise boilers had earth straps - something more to go wrong

 

While we're having all the building work done we're thinking of having a new boiler installed as well. It would solve some problems - the plumber would have more options re: water tanks, pipes etc and be less of a worry next winter
