Vanessa
What is it with chicken and newspapers? Every time I ve cleaned the coop I will put newspapers down with a layer of wood shavings on top of the wooden coop. And each time after a couple of days the girls will just take all apart - the woodshavings get throwing down the ladder into the run and the newspapers lifted up and shredded. Are they bored? Or do they not like the newspaper?
Seagazer
Well I don't know about chickens but my rabbit AJ used to do this all the time. He had a 2 storey house and refused to have newspaper or sawdust upstairs. If we put it in he used to pull it up and chuck it downstairs. In the downstairs bit he had his poo corner and in the other corner he used to pull the newspaper up in the corner and sit behind it I think he was just shy I haven't really used newspaper with the chickens though. I tried it in the nesting box but was fed up picking bits of paper off the eggs.
madchickenlady
Mine do this I've got sick of picking up the shredded paper from all over the garden, and have just put a layer of shavings under them. Little monsters!
4Clucks-minusOne
I thought it was just my ladies that did that. Whenever I put a clean layer of newspaper in the droppings tray of my eglu and a folded sheet under the ramp bars, they take great delight in pulling the sheet from under the bars and out into the run usually shredding it in their haste. I just put paper in the tray now.
HENthusiastic
For once I can proudly say that my chooks DONT do this! (What good girls!) I give them layers of newspapers, then auboise on top. They are very well behaved and the newspaper stays well in place until I remove it and replace it with clean when I'm cleaning them out! Not helpful I know....... I just wanted to share what good girls I have Maybe you are giving them the wrong newspapers? Maybe they dont agree with your politics? Have you tried changing them to a different paper? Old Speckled Hen
Mine are OK with the Telegraph and the Guardian. When my mum comes to stay her Daily Mail gets shredded and thrown about.
