Why does my cockerel crow at night?

Recommended Posts

EVERY night at about 8pm, it's dark, everyone else has gone to bed, but no. What's that I hear? COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOOOOO!!! And now, at twenty to ten he's at it AGAIN! He's being rehomed soon, but every crow makes me cringe :anxious: , personally I love the sound but my neighbours on my left don't

Bloomin' boys, so lovely to look at, so impossible to keep :(

Not a lot of help now, but my neighbour was telling me about when they had chickens after the war. They had a Cockerel who was a very noisy fellow indeed so to prevent him annoying the neighbours and of course them, they shut him in the Air raid shelter over night so he could cock-a-doodle all he wanted to and was then let out at a reasonable hour in the morning. :D

I told Phillip it was cog au vin if he crowed before 7.30 am - works most of the time. Helps to have lots of lovely neighbours.

I used to think it was external noise that set him off, but I had to get up at an unearthy hour of 4.30 the other day and was banging around but he slept through that, so don't know.

My fall back position is a large dog crate and I'll bring him in if anyone complains. Although to be honest, I'm not sure he isn't still audible through the walls...

Why are they so beautiful but so noisy???
