kerrie
We've had our girls for a few weeks now and things seem to be fine but today I am a little bit concerned about some of the poo's that have been done (not sure who the culprit is). Instead of being kind of round they are a yellow/light brown colour and are sort of long and thin-they look really squishy too. Is this normal? What do I do to make it better? Thanks very much
Ain't Nobody Here
Hi Kerrie . Chickens do all kinds of poos - shapes, sizes, colours, consistencies, smells . If it's just the occasional one that's wierd I wouldn't worry. Every 10th poo or so is apparently a "clear out" poo and will look a bit strange. As long as they're eating and drinking and you've not noticed any worms in the poo, they should be OK. Might be a good idea to worm them though in any case (Flubenvet is best). fluffyknickers
I am a total newbie and dont even have mine yet but an avid reader and reseacher - I read that bokashi and garlic mixed with their pellets can help. I am sure the experts will advise. x
kerrie
It's only been today-I know I'm probably over reacting but I feel like I did when I brought my first babies home! I've got some of the flubenvet and was planning on worming the cats, puppy and chickens-if I'm doing one I m ay as well do them all! I'm just not sure how to give the chooks the flubenvet as they don't like grapes so can't cut them in half and smear some on for them to eat as has been suggested. Any other ideas gratefully accepted! Thanks x
Ain't Nobody Here
Meant to mention Bokashi bran & garlic powder but forgot by the time I got to the end of my poo ramble . Thanks, Mazzyc, you're quite right . Bokashi firms up the poos and garlic powder really does reduce the smell . For the Flubenvet, you could use little pieces of apple or anything kind of wet that the powder will stick to and is easy to give to each hen. fluffyknickers
There is a post about how to give it and different ways I read recently and people have all different ways including working out how much is needed for three chickens in a week, dividing it up so you have the correct amount for each day and adding to the pelletts. Will endeavour to find it for you. x
kerrie
I've been giving them the garlic for the past week and it has made a huge difference with the smell . I think I'll be getting some bokashi as well

Egluntyne
We've had our girls for a few weeks now and things seem to be fine but today I am a little bit concerned about some of the poo's that have been done (not sure who the culprit is). Instead of being kind of round they are a yellow/light brown colour and are sort of long and thin-they look really squishy too. Is this normal? What do I do to make it better? Thanks very much If it is just the occasional poo, then it will likely be a clear out as ANH suggests. If it is more frewuwnt, I'd keep them just on pellets (with bokashi bran if you got some) and water for a few days and that should settle them. Cut out treats, but a bit of probiotic yoghurt can be useful as can Avipro added to the water. I'm just not sure how to give the chooks the flubenvet as they don't like grapes so can't cut them in half and smear some on for them to eat as has been suggested. The easiest and most accurate way to give it is to follow the manufacturers instructions and mix it with the pellets. They get the correct dose for they age and weight, and the drug is ingested throughout the day, and not in one hit as with the grape method. I found the grape method impossible as I would have 8 overdosed hens as they fought and won the battle for doctored grapes, and the reast missed their dose.
