I shut it but leave a gap of about an inch so they can get out in the morning. Mine really panic...or sound like they are if its light and they are not able to get out of the eglu, they soon learnt how to push the door open when they found out it meant they could get to the food lol.

My eglu is in a large kennel at the moment and so i dont shut the hatch. it will be going into a walkin run when the weather is warmer so i will leave it open unless they make a lot of noise in the morning ......lol love sue xxx

In the winter I close the Eglu door as I don't want them to get drafty and cold.

I let them out at about 8am and they are out all day, until it begins to get dark, so they've got plenty of time to scratch around

 

In the summer, I will leave the door open or ajar, to give them some breeze and let them get at their food.

 

 

Same as its been so cold and the older hens site in the nesting bit,while the younger hens sit near the door.They will be able to get up and out when it warms up.Mind you my ducks wont go to bed for love nor money
