treat ball for entertainment

Recommended Posts

For when my girls get here (ONE WEEK HOORAH) I would like to have a treat ball so they can knock it about and peck at it and get corn out.

Can someone help and show me a link or something of what is the most suitable - would be much appreciated.

Also trying to get hold of a pecking block but so far had no luck.

Thank you

Peckablocks here:

http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Pecka-Block-anti-feather-pecking.html I order them 2-3 at a time, they last a few months each and delivery is usually next day (plus they do great egg boxes by post!)

Omlet shop has the treat ball, but most pet shops have them http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Chicken%20Extras&sub=General&product_id=572&sort=popularity&start=0

You can also make your own treat ball out of a chewing gum container - I can't remember the name of the chewing gum, but it comes in a round ball with a red top. Just drill some holes in the bottom big enough to let the treats drop out and it's done.

We've done this and it works - well until hubby trod on it and broke it, so now have to go out and buy some more gum.

We have one of these:

Although mine came from the local pet shop and cost £1.99.

We put their afternoon corn and mealworms in and let them get on with it!

it is always empty when we remove it at bedtime.

I got one of those the other weeks and my chooks love it. I get an iceburg lettuce leaf and stuff it with diced grapes, shredded spinach, sweetcorn and meal worms then pop it in the ball. They then have a wonderful time exploring all the different contents.

They have so much fun with it and I feel it stimulates them and it's a novel way of giving them their treats.
