TAJ
You may have seen on another thread I have ordered some new chickens - before I ring back to check if I ordered a Welbar or Barnebar can anyone tell me about eggs from either of these i.e. expected number layed, colours etc. Edited: Sorry just rang Wernlas and I am now getting a Barnvelder instead - I know they should lay dark brown eggs - anyone with experience of their laying ability, etc? Thank you, Tracy Edited February 12, 2009 by Guest

ubereglu
I have a barnevelder, she's lovely, lays dark brown, chocolatey coloured eggs and is a very pretty bird. When she's in lay she's quite prolific, but she'll only let you catch her when she's laying, the rest of the time she's not too friendly, but she won't peck you. Daphne
back in the mists of time when my mum was young they used to keep barneys for eggs for a family of 8/sale so I presume they are good layers....as well as being very pretty! Tulip
We have a double-laced Barnevelder and she is absolutely beautiful. She started laying last month and lays two days on, one day off without fail. She crouches beautifully, too, so is easy to grab for a cuddle. Hope this helps!
