pencilbeckett
Hi I noticed yesterday that my exbatt Geraldine has some small lumps on the underside of her feet. They look skin coloured and they are round and quite small (less than the size of a pea) but still noticeable.
Egluntyne
Unless she is having difficulty walking, or there is redness and obvious swelling, I shouldn't worry.
pencilbeckett
Hi Thanks for the reply. Just been out and had a good look. The lumps dont seem to be bothering her at all so will just keep an eye.
Joojoo
That sounds like bumblefoot and can be quite painful. If they've been standing on wire it causes them too develop. Edited to change from bubblefoot to bumblefoot Edited February 15, 2009 by Guest
Egluntyne
This is Bumblefoot. Pretty advanced admittedly. Usually caused by bacteria getting into a cut. Why not examine them closely and see if you can spot anything. Some hens do have more prominent pads on their feet than others. If you are at all worried, I would take her to the vet, as the treatment for Bumblefoot is antibiotics. As she doesn't seem bothered, I wouldn't worry at this stage. Bumblefoot usually causes the hen to limp. As you are keeping an eye on her you will notice any deterioration.
pencilbeckett
Hi Thanks for the advice Egluntine. I have just picked Geraldine up and had a good look. The lumps are not on the main pad they are near to the claws. I will keep an eye on it. My vet is not so good with the chickens, he wont really treat them he seems to think as they are exbatts i should just keep them going no matter what and just replace them when they die. I think i may need a country vet.
