ClaireG
Can anyone offer me any advice and tips please. We have an 8 year old black lab that we got as a rescue dog 5 years ago. One of my hubbys work collegues is moving abroad and has offered us her chocolate lab. I've wanted a chocolate lab for years and years but have never got round to getting one. This dog is 3 years old and has been brought up with children and cats. He has also been socialised well and is used to other dogs. We are getting him next Saturday and i wanted tips on how to introduce him to Benson, our 8 year old black lab. I've introduced cats and chickens but not dogs Unfortunatly, we don't really have a place we could use as netural territory. I have read though that it's a good idea to take both dogs for a walk and introduce them this way. What do you think? Im going to make sure they have seprate toys etc and that for the first week or so we will keep the new dogs bed in the kitchen. Bensons bed and food bowls etc are in the conservatory. I will also seperate them when we are out to begin with. Does this sound ok? Any other tips/advice you can give me?
Seagazer
You sound as if you are on the right track. When I've done it before it was with a puppy and older dog so slightly different. I think letting them meet in a park for a walk is an excellent idea. Good luck and let us know how they get on.

Gamebird
Sounds good to me. Labs are such friendly dogs that they usually adapt very well to newcomers. Good luck and let us know how it all goes.
jess
we had a mongrel for about twelve years then we adopted another one. he was very small and naughty. our original mongrel sulked for WEEKS. sulky look on his face did not want to go out that sort of thing. so i think introducing them on a walk sounds like a terrific idea as i dont want to see your doggy sulking like mine did
ClaireG
Thanks I've been to my parents today and they have given me some pointers. They've introduced puppies to older dogs but not two older dogs to each other. they both get on and intros go smoothly.
Chook n Boo Mum
Good luck Claire, all you'll need then is a yellow to complete the set... !!! I've never done older:older intros, visiting yes but not to live with each other, what you are suggesting sounds good, have fun with them. My chocolate is so laid back she's practically horizontal & the black is very highly strung. She sulked for days when we brought Poppy home, took to the yellow Daisy remarkably quickly though thank goodness! Sha x
