I was full of enthusiasm yesterday because the sun was shining and my feet are desparate to get back into their Birki's!!

kitchens
Oh no really? That's so disappointing. Was hoping it would be hot hot hot as not going on hols this year. Was thinking about buying a tent and maybe doing a few weekends away instead but reluctant to spend the money if going to be a dodgy summer! Guest
I heard it was going to be hot. But then they said that last year and it wasn't at all!
Mrs Webmuppet
I hope it's not too hot and just right for me to go sailing without having to don layers of sailing kit. A constant force 2-3 wind would be good too then LMW can sail her boat and I can get some peace.
stoice
I hope it's a bit drier this year. I'm not sure our butterflies and bees can survive another wet and miserable summer.

Old Speckled Hen
Courtesy of Ian Currie, seaweed, patterns of birds and flowers, throwing bones etc etc You can expect a white Christmas in 2009, and you read it here first After the dry start to January, it will be unsettled and cloudy by mid-month with frequent changes from mild to rather cold weather. Frosts, though, should not be too severe. The conditions will be similar to the December just gone, with alternating cold and mild spells. Any snow should not lie on the ground too long. February will have an unsettled start but it will be drier in the second half. For a while, it will turn quite mild but later in the month, as high pressure builds to the north east, winds will bring colder weather with frosts and snow showers. March looks set to be cold with frequent north-east winds. As a result, frost and snow will be above average, delaying plant growth. The middle of the month may be briefly milder and wetter. April, too, will be a chilly month with east winds prevailing. There will be quite a few frosty nights but it will be drier than average. May looks set to be on the warm side. It will turn warmer as the wind turns to the south. In the second half of the month, especially, it will be quite wet with some heavy thundery rain. June will be near average for rainfall and temperature but with a few days exceeding 28C (82F). Sunshine may be below average. July will not be anything special. Rainfall will be normal and although the sun may not come out as much as we'd like, some days should see temperatures climb to 28C (82F) or higher. August will start with similar conditions as in July but the second half will turn warmer and the mercury may reach 30C (86F) during the last week. This will precede a warm autumn. September will provide an 'Indian summer' at times, with a number of days exceeding 21C (70F). October looks like being a particulaly dry month and at times quite warm, with a continuation of the Indian summer conditions. November, too, looks like being drier than average but the temperature will be back down to average with frost and fog prevailing during the second half. December will be fairly unsettled. It will be mild at first but will turn quite cold in the second half, with a distinct possibility of a white Christmas. If there is a really snowy Christmas, it will be the first "true" white one since 1970 when several inches of snow lay on the ground. chooklady
Long term weather forcasts are a waste of time. Being on an island the wind only has to change direction slightly for the weather to change completely. Personally I would like a long hot summer but I think we will just have to wait and see what comes our way.
