Put the ex batts in the cube

Recommended Posts

:anxious:

all seems well so far, put them in about an hour before sunset as they seem to have been getting on fine out and about, daphne was a bit nervous but seem ok now, a couple of scuffles but nothing too major, I will be up at the crack of dawn to check everything is well, crossing everything.

On a totally seperate subject dh is now as chicken mad as me, we took the children to a farm today that had loads of chooks for sale and dh wants some wynadottes and silkies, I have told him he will have to wait  not sure itwill be for too long though  .

I'm still keeping mine separate from the big girls, but Ada my escapologist legbar kept breaking into the ex batts side. I kept returning her to the other side, but every time my back was turned she had got back in somehow - the record was about 10 seconds, while I stuck my head in the cube to rretrieve an egg! Eventually I gave up and let her stay, and she seems as happy as larry in there with Gerty & Flo. (Gilda also managed to get in a few times, but I found out where was getting in and blocked it off). Ada was bottom of the pecking order of my original 4 girls, but she's now boss chook in the hospital wing, and enjoying asserting herself. She has done a lot of pecking, lots of bruises on my poor new girls, but no blood drawn, so I have allowed it. I figure it's got to happen at some point anyway, but I am still protecting them from Molly & Mary as I think they would be likely to do some real damage. I am waiting a while longer - they need some feathers first, and to have their wits about them.

well all seemed to go well, they were quiet al night and everyone seems in one pice this morning, the batties didnt come out on their own so I have moved them back to the eglu for the day, will try and put them back in at dusk again. I feel a little guilty but I only put them in as they seemed so settled together.

think we will keep this pattern up for a few nights and see how we go, I wasnt up at 6 to check on them honest
