chickens personalities (only you lot would get this!)

Recommended Posts

Can only talk about chickens different personalities on this site - everyone else would think I was nutty.

Spent most of the day today with the girls - GNRGNRPP and I know it was too early to let them out but I did  . They seemed to really like it and had a snoop around and went in and out of the run and when it was time I just popped them back in.

We were busy in the garden whilst they were out and it was so funny how each of them were totally different.

GNR - Peppa. Totally fearless, Queen of the Crew and picks on Nugsy a lot. Always out first when I open the door even if they arent supposed to be out and I am just popping something in the run. First up when food is being given and mad on corn. Leader of the group.

GNR - Eggsy. Such a nosey chicken, always under your feet no matter where you move to in the garden. Husband was laying slabs and she was constantly popping back to see how far he had got. She had her nose in everything in the garden and was loving the children and followed them. If you go even near the run she is there straight away with a look of "what are you doing". I dont think she was up the front when brains were dealt out and just wanders around but takes Peppas lead when it comes to picking on Nugsy.

PP - Nugget (Nugsy). A total darling. Very timid, last out of the cube in the morning. Seems to want to be with Humans more than chickens. Hangs back as she knows she will get pecked if she trys to get the food or treats (or even just water - Peppa is a  ). I kept her out for a while today on her own when I had put the other two back. I want her to get brave and give the other two good earful nex time they start.

What are your lot like?

They do seem to have definate personalities.

Bumble- mother hen, gets very cross with the two bantams when they try and do their own thing. Always first out of the run, checks coast is clear before the other two are allowed out. First for treats and guaranteed to scatter soil and debris everywhere.

Snowy- scatty, dippy and definately last in the queue for brains. Has a habit of standing in the middle of our very small lawn looking very confused and hopeless at finding the coop.

Scurry- chief new food tester, no one is allowed to eat the new food until she has tested it. Middle chook, gets cross with Snowy for being so silly. Often stands in the run telling Snowy to hurry up and get in the run door ( treats are issued when the last chook is in and the door is shut)

Sparrow - GNR she's a bit of a dog, she can lapdance. Always well dressed, never a feather out of place and loves a manicure.

Pigeon - GNR she's a duck, so sweet always looking at what I'm doing and chirping at me. My lovely girl.

Grackle - PP She's the mouse, last out of cube, always loses out on treats, a bit shyer and less happy to be picked up. My OH's favourite so he always gives her the extras.

:lol: I always wanted a dog and a duck and now I have a mouse as well. :D

Posh GNR Friendliest. She's more inquisitive and discovers stuff first, like tapping on the patio doors, getting up the steps to the decking. She loves being picked up and couldn't care less if something is moved although will investigate!

Pecks GNR Is the boss. She clucks loudly when Posh discovers something and then does the same. She has to be higher than Posh, she'll jump on a pot to be higher. She doesn't like being picked up and will run away. She doesn't like garden objects being moved.
