Am compiling a list of 'essentials' for the arrival of the laydees but have hit a bit of a stumblig block on feed and feeders.

 

Have seen cage cups and feeders - Do i need both ? What goes in them ? Why are the feeders so big ? What size for three ex-batts ?

I use a cage cup for the poultry grit. Feeders are for the layers pellets/mash (if you don't have an eglu and grub that is). We have a fairly small galvanized tube feeder for our 4, which needs filling every day. I think it is a 5lb size.

I have cage cups on my walkin run as extra water stations, also grit lives in one in each run, and when I first had the batties I had one with corn in, as I thought they might keep a bit warmer with that on offer (it was snowing when they arrived!!).

 

I do have 2 grub and 3 super glugs too, the extra water pots are there as my 3 original chooks were not used to a super glug.

 

Wonderful little pots, they can't kick them off & spill the contents!

I used to use a galvanised trough, but they kept treading and pooing in that, so I now use 2 glugs and a gravity feeder - suits my birds and keeps the food clean.
