Single hen

Our first hen has been with us for 3 months now and has been eating really well. Layers pellets in the morning and mixed corn in the afternoon. We've recently added a new member to our hen clan and she refuses to eat from the eglu feeder and also turned her nose up at the layers pellets. Hen Nr. 1 won't eat the pellets now either. Both girls would eat corn all day if I give it to them. Problem is their laying has stopped and I'm sure they are getting much in the way of nutrients. Any advice on getting these two back on layers pellets. Many thanks.

Hello Fred and welcome to the forum.

 

You will have to be cruel to be kind. Withhold all treats and only leave layers pellets out. They will eat when they are hungry. If they know they will be getting corn in the afternoon, they won't eat anything else.

Welcome to the forum. Christian is right. No corn or any other 'treats'. They won't be pleased, but won't starve themselves.

My pleasure! You said that the other chicken is new? Maybe she isn't laying yet? They don't tend to eat too much until they start laying. They are going to love you!
