scrambledhead
Probably a very silly question, I only got my ex bats on Saturday so rain is new to them, they have been in their Eglu run today and it has rained, the winter cover is on and they are happily foraging as opposed to standing about getting soaked, is this okay?? I didn't realise it was raining so hard! Am now really worried....
splodge88
Our chickens are walking about all scraggly in the rain...silly things. It won't harm them although they might catch a cold (ours have coped fine). I wouldn't worry about it although I've heard if you have big bushes they might shelter under them. edit: I don't know if ex-batts would be any different...someone clever will come along soon
scrambledhead
Thanks, they are in the run which is covered but have still got a bit wet, they are in and out of the Eglu so I guess they're happy enough, time for bed soon anyway and I've popped in some more bedding so should be extra cosy! kayandrob
Ours stood out in the rain today too, I was worried about them especially Scraggy as she doesn't have many feathers, on the BHWT site it says they don't know about sheltering from rain etc, I have put 2 shower curtains over our run this afternoon and they have all stayed dry now, they are clear and you can still see them through it, I got them off ebay, someone on here recommended them. How are yours all getting on? We are still having problems with Madge bullying poor scraggy xxxx
bluekarin
My three have not one iota of common sense about them with regards to rain. They'd rather be out getting drenched that shut up in their horrid dry run all day Having said that, today they did go inside for about a minute Mine are not exbats and have lots of feathers, so I don't know the answer to your question, sorry. Maybe a quick dry with a towel to get the worst of the water off? I do this to my cats. They love it. Not!
Egluntyne
Mine love the rain. It means more worms and slugs.
scrambledhead
Well they all seem perky enough this morning and it has stopped raining at last and is nice and sunny! They're settling in well thanks, Margot pecks the other two every now and then but no nasty squabbles so far.
Groovychook
Mine love getting soaked! They always seem to emerge the next morning with dry feathers though! Just wish they'd take some time to clean their crispy knickers whilst out getting a dousing...
mostin
I had some very soggy chickens yesterday. I have come to the conclusion that sheltering from the rain comes with age. My older girls stay in the run and are sensible but the younger ones play out and get soaked . I eventually shut them all in at 3:30 yesterday as I don't think they could have got any wetter .
