AJuff
This week has been one like every other since November . . 1 egg day, 2 egg day, 1 egg day, 1 egg day. I have 14 chooks!! OH is not impressed and neither am I!!! They are all wormed every three months, have access to fresh grass and greens, pellets and fresh water. Mealworms once a month, tuna when moulting and poultry spice. So a breakdown Darcy and Delia may be going through the henopause? They are 2 years old? Daisy 2 and Rosie are not in lay yet. The three marans seem not to have come back into lay this spring so far. The three columbines . . . no excuse. Alice, Amber, Flora . . . no excuse. Felicity will only lay in the lavender bush at the front of the house but as I won't let her into the front any more she won't lay. How many chooks do you need to feed a family of five? Redwing
Blimey what little freeloaders! I don't know what to suggest, hopefully someone more pratical may be able to help I love the idea of the petulant chicken who is not allowed in the front garden any more
AJuff
I can tell you she is not a happy hen . . . I can't tell you how much she wallowed in the lavender and made her nest . . . . DD suggested renaming her Lavender!!!
Snowy
What breeds are they Ajuff? Just out of curiosity - pure breeds take longer to come back into lay than hybrids. Although even my pure breed has started laying again now - I would've thought you would be getting more eggs by now What are they eating? Maybe worth limiting treats and feeding nothing but pellets for a few days - that sometimes kick starts laying. Also, have you checked they are not laying anywhere else? Hope you get some more eggys soon!
AJuff
3 marans, 3 columbines, 2 Sussex Stars, 2 Amber Stars, 1 Brown Nick, 1 Black Rock, 1 Bluebelle, 1 White Star. They eat lovely organic layer pellets, grit and oyster shell. They don't get more than a handful of corn each when I get home from work. I have checked they are not laying anywhere else and apart from the lavender bush nothing more. I have confined them to their run for the time being as OH is not about to deal with the escapees, despite having clipped their wing!! Mollystar
Cut out the corn completely. Mine get a hand full between them all if in full lay although one is not laying yet, but her sister is so fingers crossed. A few sunny days & NO treats, I hope will bring you
..lay a little egg for me
Can I ask what you are worming them with? The consensus on the forum seems to be that Vermex does not work well. I have found that when I worm with flubenvet, egg production goes up straight away. Just a thought...
AJuff
I worm them with Flubenvet during the warmer months and with Xeno 200 in the winter which has 1 week egg withdrawl. I will stop corn altogether and see if it makes an impact!!! They won't be happy!!
