Ygerna
but I didnt know that chickens knew that Lunch time today Charlotte was tearing round the garden, being chased manically by the rest of the flock, wings flapping wildy as they tried to get whatever it was she had. As she zig zagged I suddenly realised she had a frog in her beak, dangling from one of its front legs. I shouted to Hubby 'A chicken has a FROG' He then took off and joined the merry melee round the garden till he got hold of Charlotte who dropped the frog and stood grumbling at him as he inspected the poor aquatic creature. He then took it to the pond and let it go. The frog apparently hid, whilst at least three of the girls ogled from the edge. Chickens are totally nuts Edit to amend typo Edited March 8, 2009 by Guest
C&T
Love it! My parents have just agreed to have our chickens while we are on holiday. They have an enormous pond and loads of frogs. God help them all!!
Cooks
this had me giggling, I could just see your husband chasing after her.. We have a pond, but no frogs that I know of
Hen Watch
Not nice I know, but quite a few times I have witnessed my chooks chasing each other round the garden with a frog hanging out of a beak and then they tear them apart and all go racing off with bits of frog. It's their absolute favourite delicacy. Some friends of mine are not keen on having eggs from me knowing that the chooks eat frogs, slugs, worms, flying ants, centipeds etc. I do try and tell them that they eat mostly a cereal based diet......honest
Griffin
Mine had a fight over a frog or toad (can never tell which) a few weeks ago. Then it snowed. When the snow thawed it revealed a frozen frog/toad underneath Then round two started over their frozen friend
Chillicat
Funny! I've seen mine with a newt before and the poor thing got passed around until the girls decided that probably wasn't possible to squeeze THAT down their throats Didn't know that newts "play dead" when they're under attack...........quite clever I think Fun and games are due..............we have LOADS of frog spawn in the pond, which they haven't spyed yet
