Luvachicken
I read somewhere on here, but now can't find it, a sort of recipe for a smelly duster that kept away flies. It used a mixture of lavender oil, citronella oil I think and 2 other things. It was stuck to the top of the inside of the eglu, and not only smelt nice but kept flies away too. It might come in useful near my rabbits as well as the chickens.
Falkor
Chelsea posted it in ANH Hemcore - a revaltion thread. "Eucalyptus, lavender and citronella oil & water solution " I have written this in my diary and will be purchases all of the above and some dusters ready for the summer
Luvachicken
Thanks for that. I don't suppose you know what quantities they are in?
Falkor
Sorry no. I planned to put water in a houseplant spayer and then add the oils until it smelt nice.....not very technical but I don`t think it matters too much. Perhaps PM chelsea? chelsea
Sorry no. I planned to put water in a houseplant spayer and then add the oils until it smelt nice.....not very technical but I don`t think it matters too much. Im not very technical either and also do it in a plant sprayer, fill it 3/4 full with water add a few drops of each oil and shake. I spray the duster 2-3 times a week depending on how windy it is (as it blows the smell out of it!) You dont have to use a duster - any old bit of rag/old tea cloth will do. I just tuck one end into the rafters of my run and let it hang down and waft in the wind like a little chicken flag Before my walk in run I put the duster under the shade on the omlet run, as there isnt much "headroom" in the omlet runs for the duster to hang down. In the height of summer you could also add a piece of sprayed kitchen towel and place a piece in the poo tray of the cube.
