The perfect mothers day present

Recommended Posts

We left our girls overnight on Saturday for the first time - we left the Eglu door open but ensured the run door was firmly shut. We came home around 2pm on Sunday.....and found our first egg laid in the centre of the nesting box!! What a perfect present for mothers day!! We weren't sure which chicken laid it - it was a toss up between Lmao the Pepperpot and Pmsl who is the oldest of the two Gingernuts. There were no eggs on Monday morning but I found another one in the nesting box when I came home, just after 5pm. Then, this morning as I was washing up and watching them from the kitchen window, Lmao went into the Eglu and I could tell she was sitting in the nesting box - just her head kept poking out. Steve and I watched her for ages and after about 20 minutes, she came out. Steve ran outside and lifted off the eggport door - to find our third egg - still warm!! I'm glad we know which one of our girls is laying for us, I hope it runs off on Pmsl and Rofl soon!!

All eggs have been smaller than shop bought "medium" but perfectly egg shaped with hard shells. They are a dark colour, quite brown with speckles. I can't wait to see what the other two will produce.

Our first egg went as a glaze on chicken pie for supper last night - the rest of this weeks eggs will be made into bacon and scrambled egg sandwiches on Saturday morning - yum yum!!

Just to keep you updated...Pmsl laid her first egg four days after Mothers Day - yay! She laid on five consecutive days, then had two days off but is now producing everyday. Our little girl Rofl who we thought would never lay an egg finally surprised us yesterday with her first egg - it looks so tiny compared to the others!!

I've only just seen this last post - but yes, that's eggzactly what we call them! We now have pet names for them too:

Lmao = Mowmow

Rofl = Rofflecopter / Roffs / Roffly

Pmsl = Pecky Little Beast

....and apparently we have a new plural for chickens - it's chickenses!!
