i'm so excited, I have been lucky enough to buy a second hand mark 2 red eglu today, which is getting delivered this weekend. i currently have wood house and 3 chickens that haven't been with us very long. i am looking forward to increasing my flock, which i wasn't going to do for another couple of years. However i couldn't say no as i realise second hand eglus are in popular demand, and it's what i really wanted in the first place anyhow.

On a sad note i would like to spare a thought for the ex owner of eglu. She past away suddenly recently and had only got her eglu in july. My dad cleans her windows and he says all she ever talked about were her chickens and she sat on her swinging chair talking to them. She was a real valid member of her street and everone loved her, she will be missed.

Thank you for reading this

I got my first three girls on valentines day of this year too! I vowed that although I may expand eventually I wouldn't for quite some time - today I got two bantam hens to add to my flock!

I can't believe how addictive this chicken keeping lark can be - despite all of the warnings from fellow omleteers!

I'm sure the previous owner of the eglu will be glad that it's gone to a good home!

Aaaw, bless her. At least she will have died happy. I hope her girls found a lovely new home with someone?

I dream of sitting in a swinging chair and talking to my chookies... What a way to spend your days eh?

I don't know where her chickens had gone. I wanted to ask her husband loads more questions but i held back. my dad had warned me that he wasn't well and was going into hospital hence why he wasn't keeping them. Its a shame as neither of them are/were that old, late 50 early 60 i'd say.

Sad news about the owner. I wonder if she was a forum member?

Congratulations on getting the Eglu. I bet she'd be thrilled that it has gone to a happy home, with children about.

I also wondered if she were a forum member, thats one of the reasons i posted this topic. I'm going to have a look though the gallery, because i would spot the eglu and garden. i know the chickens were hybrids and i think he said the chickens may have been called mitsy and gaynor (named after a film)but a maybe wrong. If i find anything i'll post a link or if someone else finds anything could they, thank you.

p.s eglu is red

Thank you for all the lovely messages.

Guess what ?

It's here ! (red eglu)

Its in bits at the minute, i've just hosed it down. And i just want to say 'wow'. I knew how you all say how great it is and easy clean, but you don't realise until you have one yourself. I love how the water goes down the holes when you hose it. it is brilliant much easier than my wood house.

i guess i should go and change my signature.
