mostin
I made some hot cross buns today from an Ocado recipe I downloaded. It didn't make much sense though . I've checked the omlet cook book and can't find one there. Does anybody have a good one, with eggs in that they like? Groovychook
I used this one today! http://www.lakeland.co.uk/090326-hotcrossbuns?src=email&email=090326eastereditorial It came in the latest email from Lakeland. Only uses 1 egg but they taste very nice!

PurpleTree
There's one on Netmums http://www.netmums.com/food/Easter_Recipes.961/, it's about the 5th recipe down. The other Easter baking recipes sound nice too.

Guest
I tried the Lakeland one and it needs (IMHO) a bit more cinammon and a bit more fruit. Having said that I also used a square pan as per the instructions but mine was a touch too small. Then a further complication was the cooking instrucitons which said " Bake in moderately hot oven for 10 minutes, reduce heat to moderate and bake for a further 15 minutes" As a fairly new Aga owner this confused me a bit as I had it in the Roasting oven but then the baking oven then back to the roasting oven. Bottom line is they don't LOOK very nice - I kinds rushed the crosses as well as it was getting late and I wanted to watch Casualty (hey what can I say - I'm a 40 year old single mother and it's the only fun I get on a Saturday night!). BUT they do taste delicious except what I said right at the beginning - they would be better with more fruit and cinammon. Anyway this sounds very long winded but its a good excuse before I show you the picture!
mostin
Look good, thanks. I agree, I always think these recipes are too light on the cinammon, but then I just love it .
PurpleTree
I've just had a go at making some, using the recipe on Netmums that I posted before. There's pictures on my blog here http://welshpurpletree.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/hot-cross-buns/ Like I say in my blog post, the dough didn't seem to rise very much, but they tasted yummy. I will have another go.
WitchHazel
I use Delia's recipe for Breadmaker Hot Cross Buns... the dough is made in the BM, then you shape the buns and bake them conventionally http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/breadmaker-hot-cross-buns,1436,RC.html When looking for that recipe link I saw she had another hot cross bun recipe too... http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/hot-cross-buns,1419,RC.html yum! I just had the last 2 of the Ocado batch of hot cross buns I made this morning, so I will be using one of the above recipies for some more for the easter weekend. ..lay a little egg for me
Ha! Wish I'd checked this post before I started hot cross bun dough in my breadmaker just now (Panasonic recipe)! If it is good I'll let you know though...
Guest
I tried the same recipe again but used 3x as much cinammon and an extra 100g of fruit. I also just made them bun shaped and they are YUMMY - I'll add a pic later when I've downloaded them.
PurpleTree
I've just found another recipe - on the Paddington Bear website! It seems similar to the other recipe from Netmums, but you heat the milk before adding it, which seems a good idea. I might try this tomorrow. http://www.paddingtonbear.co.uk/en/1/actcoohot.mxs If Paddington says they're yummy, then they must be.
