Lydia
Mine used to get maximum free ranging time whenever we were in - just checking through the windows every now and then. This went on for the best part of 3 and a half years, then one day at 9.30 am on a bright, sunny September morning last year the fox paid us a visit. We were extremely lucky not to lose any girls that day and now they only free range if one of us is in the garden with them - we even take the phone out with us. Free ranging time is less but I'd rather that than live with the guilt - the ex-bats have had hard enough lives as it is. We live in a very built up, urban area with a busy school opposite and parents and others constantly coming and going but the fox was brave enough to visit us. He still regularly sits in next door's garden during the day (we've got Fox Watches and, to date, I've never seen him in ours since). We just don't take the risk.
