Tulip
So sorry little jerry, I can't get out of my head how scared the girls must have been (Animals being frightened is one of my biggest hates in this yobbish society - it upsets me hugely). Glad the police are taking it seriously. Lots of love to you all x
Charlottechicken
Just wanted to add my condolences as well. I echo everyone elses thoughts on this, it's my worst nightmare as well, and sickens me to the pit of my stomach Good to hear you are now looking to the future, so best wishes with whatever you decide to do. Larkspurs
OMG I've just seen this and we both want to send you our heartfelt sympathies. It's tragic how some people can do this sort of thing and we hope the police really do prosecute. Hope you start feeling a bit better soon. Hi, I'm the person Claret was referring to, we had a chicken taken and killed by a yob of a schoolboy playing truant. Although the culprit was identified (and very much known to the police) there was not enough evidence to prosecute, even with the involvement of the RSPCA. We still miss Momo every day but we have a rose planted for her and two more girls who have their own character and are laying regularly now. Do take some time thinking about what you want to do now... We've moved the girls closer to the house and I have put anti climb paint (with warning messages) all around the inside of the top or our fence. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you... Hangman
This really is a terrible story, and it's just a reminder that now even pet chickens are not immune from certain groups of scum which breed and infest the areas we live in. We should treat them like we do redmite, but that's just me
madchickenlady
Just coming back to this thread to let anyone who doesn't know about prikka strips. They're only any good of course if you have a fully enclosed garden, but if you do they are very good. We primarily got ours to help deter cats/foxes, but they are also useful anti theft devices. You do have to display a warning sign. They are strips of plastic covered with plastic cones, which would be very uncomfortable to walk/stand/get a grip on. Next doors cat tentatively touched one and hasn't been back since. He wasn't injured at all, but I suspect a human being with all that extra weight might well end up with an injury. I certainly sllep better knowing that my side gate is protected (it's the only direct access to our back garden )
