Lucia
Hi, Apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum. Had my four chickens for a week and got my first two eggs yesterday (not sure which hen laid them). Today the run has several yellow smelly poops on the floor? Just wondering if I should be doing something (assume they would have been wormed before they came from Omlet?) Chooks are bright, eating and drinking well and no messy bums. Grateful for any advice. Thanks so much A worried new chicken owner.
smithy36
Hi, I have had mine for 3 weeks, and they were the same - i did worm them with Flubenvet...as recommended as a precaution by the breeder I got them from (she said do it every 6 months). The move upsets them, so this is normal - but it may be better to worm to be safe - then you know when it was last done. Mine settled quickly, and all but Florence the Speckled Hen let me pick them up and cuddle them now.. and they know when its treat time! Good luck and dont worry - this site is fantastic for advice - much better than the 2 books I bought which are useless for us new Mums to get practical solutions! Lucia
Thanks - might pop into Countrywide and get some flubenvet just to be on the safe side. (Agree I got too books and they were ok but very basic.).
chelsea
this link is interesting & helpful (all about the different poos they produce ) http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.
Lucia
A bit but useful nonetheless - thanks! Pretty sure they are in the normal range but I guess wouldn't hurt to worm them?
Redwing
Lots of people have reported yellow poo from new hens, it seems to settle down after a couple of weeks, its possibly due to the stress of moving
Lucia
Thanks - feeling reassured!
Egluntyne
I wouldn't worm them just yet if they were my girls. Let their insides calm down first. It sounds like a normal 'settling in' poo and if you keep them on just pellets and water fro a few days it should settle. The problem is, if you have the Eglu on grass, they will OD on it at first and as they aren't used to eating it, it will make them a bit squittery. Lucia
Ahh yes they have gorged on the grass - (the patch the run was on was bare after a week so we moved them and they cleared that in about 48hrs!). Will leave them a while and see how they go. Thanks so much everyone!
