Clearance room to remove tray

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am thinking about purchasing an Eglu. I have a smallish garden and would need to put the back of Eglu fairly close up to the fence. I am worried this will be a nightmare when it comes to sliding out the tray from underneath. Does anyone know what clearance would be required to remove the tray.

An alternative, not sure if this is possible though, would be to disconnect the Eglu from the run, twist the Eglu round 90 degrees and then remove the tray. Would this be feasible?

Many thanks

Removing the run everytime would be a pain - it is 4 bolts/washers to remove & replace. Once the poo tray is half out you can move it sideways a bit as it is an L shape (big end first) as it goes around the nesting box - I would say you need 60cam clearance at the bacl at least to get it out.

Dismantling is not an option.

I've positioned my Eglu in the WIR such that I can just get the poo tray out. It's just under 3ft from the end of the Eglu to the woodwork of the WIR (my panels, which you can see in the picture, are 3ft wide).

As TAJ said, the tray is L-Shaped and can be turned and pulled towards you after the first bit is extracted.

I poo pick the (green eglu) and (cube green) poop trays daily but you could do it every other day depending on how many hens are in your (green eglu). I empty them completly once a week and give them a wash along with the rest of the (green eglu).

At the moment my (green eglu) is in my WIR as two newbies are living in it while introductions take place and the (green eglu) is butted right up to the fence so NO room to remove the poop tray. I poop pick through the egg port. The roosting bars fit through the poo port so i just take them out and then remove the poo by hand (with gloves!). It isn`t ideal but I can`t face moving the (green eglu) everyday and this is only tempoary. My point is that it is possible :D

I also should point out that my poop trays are a good inch deep with Aubiose horse bedding so the poo never really touches the plastic of the tray and is almost sparkly clean except for the edges on clean out day :D
