MaxBaz
Edwina who I think is currently moulting (base of tail has a large bald spot) laid an egg yesterday morning about 7.00am - perfectly OK - then about 6.00pm in the evening whilst she was out in the garden laid a soft shell. She appears absolutely fine - but this is the second or third time it has happened in about six weeks. Is it just a hiccup in her production system? Has anybody else had something similar? Ain't Nobody Here
Happened to my Maisie just yesterday . Perfectly normal egg early afternoon then I found a softie early evening. (Both laid in her broody cage so I know the softie was hers!) It's not happened to me more than once or twice, but I think it is just a hiccup and nothing to worry about . sandyhas3chucks
I have one that keeps doing it, did it once for 4 days on trot. I have been unble to get an explanation anywhere for it. I thought only last night that perhaps it is just a "fast track egg & that the evening one is really tom mornings early? She 1st did it last Sept I think. She seems ok. I posted here and , asked vet, wrote to some experts(never bothered to reply) guess they didn't know or would put it in their books. I wondered if it ws too much protein, But nothing seemed to be clear.
Egluntyne
Just a blip, and the 2nd one would have been shell less as the shell bit of the laying tackle wouldn't have had time to 're-stock' Her hormones are probably in a bit of turmoil because of the moult, and I'm guessing that is the cause. No need to worry.
MaxBaz
Thanks everybody! Seems to be one of those things I don't have to worry about. Egluntine - lovely to hear from you!
