Lucia
One of my new Pepperpots (nancy) began to lay a couple of weeks ago - she tends to go into the nest box about 10 in the morning to lay and for about 5 days we had an egg almost every day from her (and one from the other pepperpot - the Gingernuts aren't laying yet). We remove the eggs straight away/same day. (I have had my hens and Eglu Cube since 23rd March). Thing is Nancy hasn't laid for two or three days but is still visiting and sitting in the nesting box then coming out later on havign not laid anything. Her behaviour otherwise is normal (busy, friendly, sociaable and eating drinking well) and I'm pretty sure she isn't egg bound? Is this normal/ok? (The Gingernuts have sat once or twice but not laid yet - figured they were getting in some practice?!) . Am I worried about nothing? smithy36
HI I am no expert, but it takes a while for the egg production to get settled - i dont think a gp of a couple of days is an issue - she may have a soft shell egg to apss - all of my girls had this during their first couple of weeeks of laying. I hope that all is well now???
Lucia
Thanks for replying! Yes normal service has resumed now thanks! We did find a couple of softies in the poop tray - it was more her sitting without laying that was worrying me. My Gingernuts have started laying too now so all good. I have just ordered them an extension to their cube run too as they are having to stay in the run a fair bit as we have a lot of wildlife in the garden and we are out at work so while I feel a bit mean - better safe than sorry though I guess and they seem happy enough.
