crankycookie
Yesterday while I was supervising the girls as they free ranged around the back yard, they would periodically walk right up to me, very close and crane their necks up and stare at me, as if sizing me up. Peaches would sometimes fly about and land on Ginger, and a brief fluttering/hopping war would ensue before they both settled down and started pecking at the grass again. Then Peaches walked up to me and flew up and tried to perch on me, landing around my waist area and getting her claws stuck in my sweater! I ended up having to walk into the house with her tucked backwards under my arm like a handbag to get some help to untangle her. What the heck did she want? Was she trying to establish some sort of dominance over me, or did she think I was just a short tree she could roost in?
Patricia W
I'd say she was looking for treats -and a cuddle. It's good that they want the contact with you - so many people can't get near their chooks! I'd get a bench and sit down so she can sit on your knee. Bless! Griffin
If I crouch down some of mine will jump on my back or my shoulder, it's because they want a cuddle Juliet and Violet are the worst for doing it and I've taken to fencing them off in a different part of the garden to clean out their coop because they don't leave me alone and it's no fun at all having a very heavy Sussex hyrid on your head
Hen Watch
I know what you mean. 2 weeks ago I was talking to Stella (my white chook) and I got a bit of extra attention. My daughter rushed out to take a photo. So the moral of this story is, don't wear your best cardigan whilst talking to the chooks in case they leave you a present, or....., don't bend down. mostin
Sounds like you have a very cheeky friendly hen, or maybe a very greedy one . 2 out of my 7 girls are like this. I have one of those folding chairs that I take out with me and as soon as I sit in it one of those two characters will be staright on my knee looking for cuddles or treats. I can even carry one of them round on my hand or my shoulder like a parrot if I have some raisins in my hand .
*mummy_hen*
It is probably a mix of wanting to get some attention from you and looking for something yummy to eat!! I would build on the fact they like to be close to you as it is lovely being able to give your girls a big cuddle sometimes.
