melly264
am I the only one with silly girls who can't use the super glug? Any ideas on how to encourage them to use it? we have ended up putting it down low so they can drink out of the hole at the top!!
Redwing
This seems to be a fairly common problem hence the amount of Superglugs you see for sale I have one but have not had the joy of trying to teach my hens to use it yet. Apparently tapping it with a stick can help as the girls will see the water falling and clock on that there is water inside
feemcg
Some of mine use it, some don't (the younger ones learned to use it when they used to get hunted from the glugs ), but when I first got it I just kept tapping with my finger so they could see the water coming out. Barkisland
My girls won't use it, so I am trying to sell mine or swap it for a normal glug - but no takers so far I agree, it seems to be a very common problem. I know my girls can use it, I have seen them peck at it once or twice, but they definitely prefer the normal glug or the mushroom feeders. Mrs Webmuppet
My chooks don't like the superglug and have it placed lower down and drink from the top. The two little bantams have a separate water container and feeder.
Guest
my cube arrives tomorrow so i havent used the glug but in the meantime i used an old galvanised waterer and they just drink out of it fine and its on the floor..indeed its one of the first things they head for in the morning is to have a few pellets and good drink....no trouble..you can get them in plastic too they arent that expensive..so havent tried the glug and probably will stick to the floor drinker(they havent messed in it or anything stayed quite clean) good luck indie ps I have only had chickens for 1 week so not an expert! Abbey Road Girl
Try dribbling some water down the side when you are topping up. Once the chickens see the glug as a source of water they will probably figure it out for themselves. I imagine that their brains are smaller than pea-sized, but it's amazing how smart they can be! The super glug is well-designed and has a great capacity if you're going to be away for a few days. I'd say it's worth perservering. Good luck! emmat
Same as for me... my ladies can use it but don't like to. One flies up and sits on it to drink but the others ignore it. I end up putting a bowl down for them... I wish I hadn't sold my regular ones when I upgraded from Eglu to Cube. I keep meaning to get a couple... Jules.
It took my girls a while to get used to it, but if its the only source of water they have & you hold their beaks to it, they will soon get the hang of it. Hens choose the easy option with water, mine head straight to muddy puddles when they are out in the garden
