flowerangelk8x
i would be grateful for any tips on how to cope with the number of flys that are around our girls and their Eglu? the Eglu and run are cleaned out every week and fresh aubiose put down.....but... this doesn't seem to help? i wonder if anybody else is having this problem?.... chelsea
When I had my eglu I used to get some kitchen roll and tear off a couple of strips and place some under the shade and some in the poo tray. I then make up a mixture of 3/4 bottle of water (in garden spray bottle) with a few drops of citronella oil, lavender oil & eucalyptus oil into the water and shake. I spray onto the kitchen roll pieces. Now I have my walk in run I have an old duster hanging down from the rafters of the run and spray that 2-3 times a week to freshen up and it wafts about in the wind. No flies here. flowerangelk8x
thanks, i'll give it a go.... anything.... where can i get citronella from?
4Clucks-minusOne
I've made this mix too but still have lots of flies outside but it does keep them from inside the eglu. I empty the poo tray every morning and put a fresh sheet of newspaper in and give that a quick spray so it stays nice smelling and fly free. I got the Citronella from a shop selling candles etc, cost £1. You can get it from Holland and Barrett I think.
jlo
I got my citronella from a garden centre
Barkisland
I think it will help if you pick out the majority of poo daily, in addition to your main weekly clean up. I poo pick daily and have had no flies yet - touches wood quickly*
Henhathnofury
Hemcore, an alternative to Auboise, is treated with citronella. We find no flies in the run or anyone else where we lay it down. Outside, we hang a non-poison fly trap...it works a treat.
sandyhas3chucks
It's not my runs it's my garden that I have a problem with. started a fli trap off before it started... thought if I could catch the blighters before they breed. I am thnking of spraying citronella ecery where. Pooh barely touches the ground before I scoop it up! I had a fly problem BEFORE the girls though. have dogs but again nothing is ever left down. they seem worst when the ground is damo a grass longer. I really HATE then!
