I'm sure Gemma hasn't left the nest for a few days but can't be sure. I will know from now on if she leaves as she is contained in an eglu run - broody droppings will be obvious

Wondered whether people who have hatched with a broody lift them to make them poop and eat/drink or just leave them to their own devices.

Thanks, can you tell I am new to this :D:D

Is she staying put since you moved her? I've never hatched with a broody but would probably lift her off each day just to make sure......also gives you a chance to check for broken/damaged eggs etc. My KT has been broody for at least 10 days and she's looking really skinny and scruffy despite me lifting her off, and some days left in the cooler.

She went broody several times last year and I automatically lifted her off :D

She has stuck solid to the nest since being moved last night which is great as I paniced she would have none of it after I moved her. She is quite a persistant hen, I get the feeling she won't move at all unless I make her. I need to dust her tonight so she will have to move then

Trouble is having always had a walk in run, I am finding the eglu run quite a challenge to get my head around  will have to crawl in later. I think I will net around it later and lift her out of the nesting box -see if she then goes back in - could always lift her back myself

I always lift them off then pop them in through the run door to make sure they eat and drink before returning to the nest. This gives you a chance to check/candle the eggs.

It's recommended to move them twice a day, but be careful that they don't have any eggs under their wings when you lift them up.

Yep that would work - I was thinking the run door was smaller than it actually is. Will turf her out later - I am opening her door in the morning way too early to be hanging around longer than I need to :D I didn't know they recommended twice a day, I thought you could leave it for two days  Oh well I will do her once a day then :D Thanks for that.
