Is it normal for chickens to attack and kill other chicks????? I am really beating myself up about the death/disappearance of this poor chick!! I feel I have let it down

They can yes.

Its just natural, they see it as an outsider and get rid of it.

 

Its the same as when introducing new hens into a flock, it needs to be done very slowly nd when they're big enough.

If it is the chickens that have got this chick they have pulled it through bars on a chicken arc!!! we cant think of any other explanation though....poor thing. The arc looks like a prison now!!!! There is no sign of this chick anywhere though..no blood,fluff or anything..just gone

Yes they will kill - they can peck eyes out and kill chcikens, hence the advice about not doing intros when hens are too young. Mine will kill frogs and eat them and others on here have reported mice being killed and eaten.

 

So keep broody and her chickes away from the others until they are POL themselves.

They definitely do kill.

 

Have you considered the possibility that it could have been taken by a rat, mink or even a two legged predator whilst you were out?

Hi there, after seeing the way our chickens reacted to a newbie, they definately can kill. I love them but boy were they vicious with our new girl.
