CALNICK
hi everyone our ark arrives on thursday and we are going to purchase 4 more girls, we have been making some enquiries today for pol, however no success but someone has said they have some growers for sale which are outside and hardened off. Cn someone explain what they mean by growers please. cheers calnick
Guest
I think growers are the stage btwn chicks and POL. Not sure what age though, you'd have to ask the people selling them I s'pose.
Angels4
Hi CALNICK Justine is right about growers (raising feed) should be fed to the girls between chickdom and POL. Checkout this informative website for the timelines and ages. http://www.freewebs.com/professorchicken Click on "Timeline of a Chicken" over to the left. Patricia W
I think they are chickens aged between about 8 weeks and POL. So you won't get eggs for a while, but you will have lots of time to get them really friendly. We got ours at 8 weeks and I thought they'd never lay as it seemed such a long time - but they did! Egluntyne
Hardened off means that they are no longer under the brooding lamp, and have need accustomed to the outdoors. I bought 4 x 8 week old chicks last year and they fine . I took the roosting bars out of the Eglu for a month or so, and put a little ramp so that they could get in and out. They were fine. CALNICK
thank you for your replies, having spoken to the breeder this morning she says the growers are 6 - 8 weeks old and there are a lot of different choices of pure breeds which we want to add to our other 6 girls. Again many thanks calnick

Hi Egluntine as you know I'm getting my 4 x 8wk old girls this Sunday and I'm planning on putting them into the cube straight away (I don't have the room inside). I have already built a ramp for the ladder and I do plan on taking out the roosting bars, but I'm concerned about the night time temps, it has been rather cold here, about 40F. I plan on speaking with the breeder, but thought you might have some insight as well.
tidygirlsuk
My chicks were outside at 8 weeks when i collected them. If you are worried, pad the cube out with lots of straw. Edited April 30, 2009 by Guest

They cuddled up together. If it is very chilly, maybe you could put a **Snugglesafe** in with them. They are available in the US.

I LOVE them, and use them all the time. I just heard back from the breeder, and was informed that the girls are living in a pen in her garage without heat lamps and are fully feathered and will be fine in the coop. I've been worried for nothing.
