no1motherhen
Hello Just a quick question - we have the "grub" feeder in our cube and we half fill it daily with layers pellets but my girls seem to manage to spill an awful lot of the pellets out of the feeder onto the ground and this 1) obviously wastes quite a lot of food and 2) seems to destroy the grass beneath the feeder. Any advice on this? Thank you Claire and the girls PS the garden birds think it is great as they get to eat the leftovers!
Budgies
I think they all do this, certainly my girls made a mess with layers meal! Perhaps you could put a shallow tray underneath the feeder to collect the pellets they jettison?
Hen Watch
Mine do this on and off. So for a few weeks they will flick the pellets out of the grub feeder and eat them off the floor, leaving mess behind. Then all of a sudden they start behaving again for a few months I try not to overfill the grubs when they are in their naughty phase. Redwing
Mine do this if there is Bokashi in with the pellets, the choosy madams love the bokashi! I know that Claret uses Glugs instead of Grubs for food, I'm not sure of the reason but they could be good to stop the scooping out of the food? The grubs sit at a slight downward angle on my Eglu run so if yours is the same you could try wiring a slim bit of wood to the run behind where the grub fits so you take that angle away so its more effort to scoop! urbanchick
Try putting the grub a little bit higher, and don't overfill it. This worked for me. Bear in mind that spilt food will attract rodents so make sure it's all cleared up ar the end of the day.
