Scramble
Has anyone else been told that they have to boil (then cool if needed) their tap water? It's something to do with the swine flu I think, I'm not sure but our area says the bacteria is in our water supply and that we should boil all water. We buy Volvic anyway, so no problems for drinking... but brushing our teeth! We've had to boil and then cool several bottles of water to use for teeth brushing and fruit and veg washing, it's getting a bit annoying tbh, I know it's good and to keep us safe, but impractical. poachedegg
I used to work at United Utilities and 'boil water notices' are issued as when they test the water (samples are taken every day at different points), some form of bacteria is found in a sample and as a precaution, until the water is tested as clear then the water company will advise to boil. I can't imagine it is anything to do with swine flu - more like cryptosporidiosis. Edited May 3, 2009 by Guest

It's not because of swine flu! What a pain for you all though, has it been several months? I believe it's a possible contamination of a bacteria called cryptosporidium which the authorities are finding it hard to control in that area. Cryptosporidium can cause horrible symptoms. I know because I suffered with this about 12 years ago when the local water had the bug. I was taken ill on the Fri. eve. when away for the w/e. Arriving home, there was a leaflet telling us not to drink the water...too late for me! So, use the precautions until it has the all clear, and keep calm and carry on.
