Lydia
We buy dried mealworms off Ebay at 10kgs a go so we often have large bags within large boxes in the shed. The girls know this but haven't worked out how to penetrate the boxes (yet). Today I filled up the bird table with mealworms then put the bag containing about 5kgs of them back in the shed while I finished cleaning out the cube. I heard a sort of swishing noise and looked up just in time to see the open bag gently flop on to its side and mealworms spill gracefully all over the shed! Trilby was nearby and obviously thought Christmas had come early, so sent out the shout to the others whereupon 7 hens raced at the speed of light from all over the garden, knocking over cats and husbands in the rush. Within seconds they were all knee deep and spreading the worms over an even wider area. After swearing profusely (and hearing the neighbours snigger) I was in there too ankle deep trying to clear up before they overdosed. Hubby stood smirking until I threatened him with consequences if he didn't start helping the clear up effort pronto Needless to say I think our hens will sleep well tonight after the excitement
dancing cloud
Bet they thought all their Christmasses and birthdays had come at once - greedy creatures! Mine always try to trip me up when I'm taking cat food to the greenhouse for the floating cat population. It worked once, so they constantly live in hope
