Chucky Mama
We have 2 God Children (boy and girl) and are looking for suitable christening gifts for them. I want something that will be suitable for them as adults. I was thinking along the lines of a pocket watch and locket or crucifix. Would love your ideas and suggestions on original christening gifts.
hilda-and-evadne
Would love your ideas and suggestions on original christening gifts. One of my nicest christening presents - twiddly-upty six years ago - was/is a deep red/orange ("ox blood") coral necklace.
jackiepoppies
Difficult one as mugs, spoons etc. just need cleaning and get stuck in a drawer We gave OHs nephew a bottle of vintage Port to be kept for his 21st. (don't know if it was!) How about a charm bracelet that can be added to each year? For the boy how about a 'driving lesson' bank account? Will keep thinking Jx
Janty
I bought my god son a steiff bear. I thought that this would be a nice keepsake and something which will hopefully increase in value for him.
Hen Watch
I always give coins for christenings. As they are both a reminder of the year the baby was christened and something to keep into adulthood. I have bought both the Baby Gift Set £20 and the £1 silver coint £35 in the past depending on how close the child was to me. http://www.royalmint.com/
Ygerna
I don't know how much your budget is, but, my DS1 was given a box of parcels, each one marked with the age/year they should be given to him. Every year on the anniversary of his batism we open the next one.
Willow
I like the royal mint coins idea. I bought a simple but slightly unusual cross and chain for one of my niece's recently. Bought in a jeweller in nearby village that had more choice than bigger nation wide jewellers so try little local stores.
Chucky Mama
Wow, already some great ideas. I do like the idea of coins, I will look into it further. The set of parcels for each year also sounds very imaginative. I had thought of a Steffi bear so will also look at the price of those. Chucky Mama
Well, I have gone for a Royal Mint coin for the boy but haven't yet found something for the girl. I am not keen to get a charm bracelet after seeing my sister in law sell hers as soon as she was allowed and then spent the money on partying! Was wondering about something based around a birth stone but any ideas greatfully received.
Yorkshire Pudding
An idea that was suggested here and which I used for our godson (and will re-use when we are godparents to his little sister this summer), was for our children each to choose a favourite childhood book, and to write in a little message to the child being baptised saying why they liked the book so much. This was lovely because it's very personal and brought the 'God-siblings' (!) into the event rather more. For a friend's little girl we bought a beautiful wooden height chart, with frames to add a photo each year as the child grows.
Chucky Mama
HAve now sorted 2 presents and thought I would let you know what I got. I have bought a Gold Quarter Sovereign and a lovely Chess set in a presentation box. I thought both would be good gifts to enjoy when they are older and perhaps pass on to their children, Thanks for all of your suggestions.
