Redwing
Yes you can - it rots down perfectly and very quickly
Kit
Hi Redwing Do you have to compost it first or can you put it straight into the borders...will the chicken poo kill the plants if it has not been composted first? Many thanks Kit
Redwing
I used to think you couldnt use it but there was a bit in Gardeners Question Time on Friday about this and they said that you really shout rot it down first then it can be used on any plant but in the absence of a composting bin or heap it could be used 'neat' on established large shrubs and trees (but don't let it touch the trunk) but not on young or small plants and certainly not on veggies or seedlings If you use woodchips as a bedding I would definitely let it rot down as the chippings will take the nitrogen from the earth to help it rot and will starve the plant of nitrogen
Ain't Nobody Here
When my compost bins were both full I chucked loads of hemcore/poo on the borders (I only have established shrubs and no flowers to speak of). Doesn't seem to have done any harm (although the weeds were looking very healthy ).
