Hi Folks,

 

Just got some cod liver oil as one of my girls is laying frequent softees. I was just going to mix a few sunflower seeds into a couple of drops of cod liver oil and let her tuck in - is this the best way to give her this??

 

Also gonna try some limestone flour - do i just sprinkle this on to their pellets - didn't think it would hurt if they all got a bit of this??

I add cod liver oul to the pellets, just enough to coat them, and then add the limestone flour. The oil helps it to stick to the pellets nicely.

I've been giving my girls Cod Liver Oil and grated cuttlefish (I can't get hold of any limestone flour til the weekend) - as somebody advised on here. I must admit, it's done wonders. The girls get a bit fussy if I mess with their normal layer's pellets or mash but I give them a 'treat' of wet mash in the evening with it all mixed in - they lap it up.

 

They are now all laying good hard shelled eggs after quite a few weeks of poor shells and softies.

Just discovered that my girls love cod liver oil on pellets - I am guessing its ok to give everyday ?

Hello all - finally got some limestone flour (was waiting for order!) - and am glad not to have to grate cuttlefish for a while - which is a grotty job!

 

Anyone know how much to add to their food?

I add a tablespoon per litre of feed.

 

You should be able to get your limestone flour from a horse feed supplier - my local feed store stocks the NAF one. I can't say that I have seen other makes round here, but Egluntine gets hers on the internet.

That's great - thanks Claret. Yes I was waiting for the order to come in to our horse feed shop - seemed to take ages for some reason (I reckon they forgot to add it to their order!) Still got a huge tub of it now so it should see me ok for a few months at least!
