carrie
Since I got my new chickens about 5 weeks ago I have been really worried about how we would do the introductions. New chicks are currently 14 and 16 weeks old, they are kept in a separate house and run in a seperate fenced area, they have occasionally got in with the big ones or close to their fence and the big girls have gone mad and really pecked them. But this morning I woke up and all three little girls had got in with the big ones and all was fairly calm , so I have left them. They have been chased a little (when they were eating the big girls food and when the little ones have gone to see what was going on when the others were laying) but that's it! I can't believe it. quickcluck
That's just brilliant for you! What a relief I hope that it continues on this way for you.... wish me luck as I am doing the same a the moment!
dancing cloud
Well done you (and them!) I was really worried about introductions too and mine also went so much better than I could have hoped for . My big girls were so laid back about the new heavenlies that they started to mingle after two weeks (under close supervision). Six weeks in and they are very nearly fully integrated , but the big girls still won't let them join the gang for the afternoon gossip and snooze - the heavenlies have to find their own bit of flower bed! We thought our introductions were ok until today when all the birds attacked one!!!! not a nice sight i can tell you so she is now on her own although freeranging with the others. It will be interesting to see where she goes to roost tonight
