Aaaagh my broody hen is on day 19 of sitting today. So anxious that nothing will hatch at all. She is sitting on two red black araucana eggs and three black araucana eggs, all of course.

 

No sign yet of whether broody has stopped turning them yet/ heard any cheaping

 

I still have the roosting bars in now - given that it is day 19 should I try and take them out round her and put the aubiose in and a couple of jay cloths - where they were? Do you think I could do this as she sits or should I turf her out for a last broody poo - she hasn't been out for the last two days, she normally gets herself out every 2-3 at the moment

I'd say if she hasn't got up of her own accord by tonight then to quickly turf her off and remove the bars then.

 

I haven't heard cheeping before day 21 now so not to worry!

I'd aggree with Griffin, put her in the run, take the roof off and take them out.

 

Are you going to candle the eggs at all? Could be done tonight just so you're prepared for so many clear eggs

I use the light function on my mobile phone for candling. I did buy ones of those pen candlers but I found the light on my phone was much brighter. I also discovered yesterday afternoon that if I shove my phone down my bra, put my cardi over my head and shove eggs up my t-shirt that I can candle during daylight hours

I don't think I will - I will leave it until the weekend and then candle if nothing has happened Too nervous now. I didn't have ultrasounds for either of my two children so am kind of following the same principle. Probably stupid - if I had candled a few days ago I could have decided whether or not to buy the chick crumb that I bought this morning
